Simple Home Technologies

As dementia progresses it can become challenging to use regular home technologies such as the phones, remote controls and radios. This can be due to their poor colour contrast and small buttons, making it hard to see and use.

The Memory Technology Library demonstrates a range of simple technologies that can keep you independent and engaged in your home. The occupational therapist can discuss these with you and provide advice and strategies based on your needs

The Object Locator

The Object Locator is a set of key rings that are each programmed to corresponding buttons on a remote control. Simply attach the key ring to items that are misplaced regularly such as your keys or wallet. When you can't locate the item press the button on the remote to sound an alarm on the key ring and help you locate the item. The object locator has a range of 30 meters.

The Flipper Remote

The Flipper Remote is a simplified remote control for your television. It has 5 large and good colour contrasting buttons making it easier to navigate. Setting up may require support as this can be challenging and it is compatible with a wide range of televisions and digital boxes.
